The US-based company Archer Aviation Inc (ACHR.N) they are planning to develop about 250 battery-electric air taxis by the year 2025 as well as they will scale up production rapidly in the following years, after setting the target of getting its aircraft certified by the end of the year 2024.
It is told by CEO Adam Goldstein to Reuters in an interview that in our first year, we are going to build around 250 aircraft, and in our second year will make around 500 aircraft, our third year will push this number to 650 as well as after then we will scale it up to around 2,000 aircraft per year.
Archer Aviation Plans To Develop 250 Air Taxis In 2025!
Archer’s major target is to certify its pilot-plus-four-passenger aircraft which name is ‘Midnight’, by the end of the year 2024, However the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is right now in the procedure of drawing up certification rules for these futuristic aircraft.
Midnight will be a four-passenger plus pilot air taxi with a payload capacity of 1,000+ pounds (454 KG). The charging turnaround time of this vehicle will be about ten minutes to enable the types of flights Archer goals.
The functioning model flight range will be around the 20-mile (32 kilometers) range, contained with the ten-minute recharges as well as targeted at cross-city car trips that usually take an hour or more time.
Archer’s has constantly been focused on utilizing its vehicles to reduce urban congestion, and it is also told by Goldstein that its pricing will be similar to or cheaper than Uber Black service. However, Midnight will be completely new for the world.
Archer has been making its prototype since its launch in the year 2021 and in June month. The makers of this vehicle have told that they have completed their first hover test flight in December 2021, after different kinds of modifications, and again tested the flight earlier this year.
In July 2022, it is informed Archer that Maker has moved into the third stage of flight testing where they are measuring the aircraft’s performance at increasing forward speeds according to their current progress reports.
Archer Aviation said that till the end of this year (2022) the prototype will move towards full transition flight. JPM analyst Bill Peterson said in one interview that in terms of aircraft production, we have projected in our Archer model 20 units till the year 2025.
It is especially very exciting news for United Airlines, Till August 2023 the organization Urban Air Mobility (UAM) is going to deposit $10 million amount on 100 of Archer Aviation’s (Archer). They have already finalized the deal of purchasing the 100 aircraft in 2021.
An estimated price value of $1 billion. The additional $500 million purchase option is already included in the agreement, and the deal verifies that United could have a swift of up to 200 of Archer’s flying taxis.
While holding down a delivery promise date in this market is like the ‘proverbial tail on the donkey,’ 2024 year has already been mentioned as a delivery time. Archer Aviation shares have already fallen to 54% so far this year and right now they are in critical condition.
After getting the certification from FAA, the California-based start-up’s (Archer Aviation) electric Vertical Take-Off as well as Landing (eVTOL) aircraft will participate in a crowded market with lots of other developers like Vertical Aerospace Ltd (M00.F) and Joby Aviation Inc (JOBY.N).
Competing to improve urban transportation. The nascent segment, which is funded by industrial heavyweights like Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) and Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T) is facing major challenges for the certification now.
Also for other issues like designing an appropriate air traffic management system and battery technology improvements, among others. Archer Aviation will be launching the production aircraft ‘Midnight’ on the 16th of November in an open house function.

Injecting concerns over certification delays. Goldstein expects that there will be a huge demand for eVTOL aircraft on an annual basis for the industries. It is also told by the CEO of the company in one interview.
From the first day, our goal has been set that we want to develop a perfect commercial business model that will support and transform intra-city travel. Right now, we have made remarkable progress in the development of our EVTOL aircraft technology.
It is going to be very beneficial for all industries. It will save time as well as the cost of travel. We are giving our best to make it perfect to fulfill all the needs of the market and also put some additional features which will be unique.
