Netflix has a reputation of turning seemingly absurd conceits (hello, Too Hot to Handle) into unexpected smashes.
Take, for example, Warrior Nun, which, yes, is a genuine show that debuted in 2020 and quickly rose to the top ten most-watched series list on Netflix.
The plot revolves around Ava (Alba Baptista), a teenage orphan who wakes up in a morgue and realises she’s been infused with ancient talents thanks to an artefact embedded in her back.
As a result, she’s won a free ticket to the Order of the Cruciform Sword, a group of—are you getting it yet?—warrior nuns. Warriors nuns have promised to safeguard the earth against demonic forces, but Ava isn’t convinced.
What follows is a lot of Supernatural-style baddie-fighting, spiffy superpowers, and fancy clothing, but the engaging cast saves this normally irreverent show from alienating its audience.
Warrior Nun, one of Netflix’s several comic book adaptations, soon garnered a fan base eager for season 2. Following all, we need to know what happens after the finale’s enormous cliffhanger. Will we witness the epic fight between good and evil? Will Ava give up her halo for a life in the hills like Maria in The Sound of Music?
Season 2 is finally here after a two-year gap caused mostly by the pandemic. Here’s what we know so far.
When Will The Second Season Of Warrior Nun Be Released?
Netflix eventually confirmed a release date for season 2 during their June 2022 Geeked Week event: winter 2022. In an accompanying teaser trailer, we watch Ava deal with the cliffhanger ending of season 1—and get a taste of the battle to come. (She also moves on water.)

Why Did Season 2 Take So Long To Arrive?
Warrior Nun was renewed for a second season by Netflix in August 2020. The ensemble burst into cheers during an endearing virtual reunion that the streaming service posted to Twitter when showrunner Simon Barry revealed that they’d be returning shortly.
However, because of pandemic constraints, production did not begin in earnest until nearly a year later, in summer 2021.
In November 2021, Barry announced on Twitter that the main unit production had completed filming, hinting that season 2 would most likely premiere in mid-2022. When Barry released a behind-the-scenes photo from the set in December 2021 with the caption “Happy New Year from #WarriorNun – we can’t wait to premiere Season 2 with you in 2022,” he confirmed their concerns.
The next update came a few months later, in February 2022, when Barry revealed that season 2 was “in several thousand small digital parts in a massive @netflix server, being reassembled by brilliantly talented artists who need to shape it just right so that it melts your brain in the desired fashion we imagined.” Finally, during Netflix’s Geeked Week in June 2022, a season 2 teaser and release date were released.
What Can We Expect From Season 2?
In a July 2020 interview with Refinery 29, star Alba Baptista described the series’ examination of Adriel, a woman with an intriguing backstory. “The authors have everything planned out for an eventual season 2,” she stated. “…I adore Adriel’s character. I think he’s quite dense, and his tale has many layers that we will find as time goes on.”
She later noted that the second season might be even crazier than the first. “There will be a big, massive announcement for an eventual season 2,” she stated. “It was well thought out.” It wasn’t an accident. Another storyline twist for the audience to guess on for another year. They’ll have to wait for another season.”
The season 2 trailer confirms Adriel’s return as the Big Bad, although we don’t know in what capacity.
How Many Seasons Will Warrior Nun Have?
We’ve got our second, but if Barry had his way, he’d get a third, fourth, and fifth as well. “Anything between five and seven seasons would be nice,” he told Inverse.
He also told CBR.com, “We had ideas out of the first season writing room that we thought would be fascinating for a second season if we were lucky enough to receive one.” So, sure, we definitely encourage Netflix to follow it.”
And he admitted to Looper that “we were keeping back so many mysteries in season one.” In terms of the show’s mythos, the cat is now out of the bag. I think it’ll be really thrilling to go on that trip and unpack what we’ve revealed.”
