An eight-day training camp is being held in Tunisia to prepare the Uganda Cranes for their game against Algeria at the 2022 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
Uganda Cranes Football Club Departs For Tunisia To Attend A Four-Day Training Camp Ahead Of Their Clash With Algeria
The training camp, scheduled to kick off on Monday, will see the Cranes perform well to seal their place in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. The Cranes are currently positioned at the 15th spot on the Africa Cup of Nations qualification table with six points from five matches.
This year’s edition of the AFCON will see Uganda face off against hosts Egypt, Mali, Tanzania, and Algeria. Before playing against Algeria, the team that has traveled to Tunisia will hold a four-day camp.
Uganda Cranes:
The Uganda Cranes are Uganda’s national team, nicknamed “The S Cranes,” named after the country’s national bird. They were formed in 1955 and were formerly known as the Uganda Milk Board Football Team. They won their first continental title when they took the inaugural 1978 African Cup of Nations trophy.
Algeria Football Club:
The Algerian Football Federation manages the national football team (nicknamed “Les Fennecs”), also known as Algeria’s national football club.
It has been representing Algeria in international football since 1958, when it first qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, continuing to participate in all editions of the continental tournament except for 1972 and 1976.
During preparations for the Algeria match, the Uganda Cranes head coach Micho Milutin Sredejovic is leaving for Tunisia with his squad. The four days in Tunisia are aimed at getting the players prepared for the weather in Algeria. Uganda plays Algeria on Saturday 4th June.
A 25-player squad to Algeria consisted of 17 local players and eight foreign players. Moses Aliro, Yiga Najiba, Denis Otim, and Mato Rogers have left Kisasi for a camp there. They will rejoin the team on Wednesday, when they are due to face Niger at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Wednesday, 8th June.

KCCCA FC forwards Sadat anaku, Muzamiru Mutyaba midfielder, defender Timothy Away, and Livingston Mulondo is some players in Micho’s squad that will face Algeria.
