Shawn Kemp: Basketball Career

As already said, Shawn Kemp was more into basketball from a very young age. He was destined to be a star from his high school years onward.

He scored the most points ever in Elkin County and Concord High School’s single-game and season scoring records. He enrolled at the University of Kentucky in 1987, but because of a poor SAT score, he was unable to play in his first season.

He was later charged with trading off a gold chain belonging to a teammate, leading to his dismissal from college. Kemp then joined a community college to complete his college studies.  Kemp registered for the NBA Draft in 1989, not long after finishing Community College.

The Seattle Supersonics selected him as a member; he was the youngest player in the NBA at the time. In the beginning, Kemp had to face many challenges, but soon he began to exhibit his potential.

In the 1992 postseason matchup with the Golden State Warriors, he scored on Alton Lister, and in the 1995-96 season, he and Gray Payton helped his team to 64 victories.

In the championship series against Michael Jordan and the Bulls, the Sonics fell short in six games. In the national championship, Kemp excelled with 23.3 points and ten rebounds.
