Virginia $500 Checks For 2 Years: Who’s Eligible?

Officials in Alexandria, Virginia, have revealed that 170 people will receive $500 monthly payments for the next two years.

There are no strings attached, so Virginia residents can spend the money however they see fit. The application period for the ARISE guaranteed income program begins on Monday, October 31.

A lottery will be used to choose the candidates. Officials from the city have said that the $500 payments will be spread out over 24 months. The first check should be sent out in January 2023.

Residents have been warned that they must be at least 18 years old and have an income equal to or less than 50% of the Area Median Income.

Who is eligible?

The threshold for a single-person household is $49,850. Between October 31 and November 9, applications can be submitted.

Residents will be notified  the results of their application between late November and early December. Officials have stated that the payment will have no effect on Social Security benefits.

Virginia residents will not be taxed because the monthly payment will be treated as a gift. Payments are part of the Alexandria Recurring Income for Success and Equity scheme.

Coachella, California, officials have launched an income program that will provide $400 per month for two years to 140 families.

Other places lending a helping hand

Madison, Wisconsin, has begun providing monthly $500 payments to 155 households for a period of 12 months.
