New York $270 Checks Still
Grabs: Who’s Eligible?
This week, millions of people living in the state of New York are going to receive checks for up to $270.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced in September that eligible New Yorkers could receive up to $270 in new stimulus payments.
Last week, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (DTF) began mailing the checks to eligible New Yorkers.
The Tax Department will issue $475 million in additional New York State child and earned income tax payments to approximately 1.8 million people.
According to the DTF, the majority of the payments should arrive by the end of the month of October.
Taxpayers who received the Empire State Child Credit, Earned Income Credit, or both on their 2021 state tax returns will automatically receive the checks.
"The average payment for each recipient is approximately $270, which will help address rising expenses involved with the pandemic and inflation," Ms. Hiller added.
Eligible residents must have filed their 2021 New York State income tax return by April 18, 2022, or had a valid extension to file.
Are You Eligible?
The minimum amount that can be issued on a check is $25, and checks will include either payment option.
The payment for the Empire State child credit is based on your income and ranges from 25% to 100% of the amount of the credit you received for your 2021 taxes.
New York residents are not required to report the payment when filing their 2022 income tax returns. Visit the state's website to determine your eligibility.
