Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer 4xe To Transform Market Segment

Jeep is putting forth a lot of effort to develop the first full-size plug-in hybrid SUV that has a full-frame.

The Grand Wagoneer 4xe PHEV may have enough torque for best-in-class towing when needed and enough range to act like a battery electric vehicle the rest of the time.

When Jeep showed us the first pictures of its Wagoneer 4xe, it didn't say much about the PHEV that was coming.

It did say that it is designing the car so that it can go 500 miles on a single fill-up of gasoline and electricity.

That is getting close to the plug-in hybrid with the longest range overall: the 600-mile Toyota RAV4 Prime crossover.

When fully charged, both the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs can go more than 20 miles on electric power alone.

But the Grand Wagoneer SUV is much bigger and could carry a battery pack that is bigger and heavier.

Even if the Grand Wagoneer can only go 20 miles on electricity alone, that's enough for the average driver to do 90% of their trips without turning on the gas engine.

Jeep already makes the only plug-in hybrid full-frame SUV in the world: the Wrangler 4xe. But while the Wrangler is a midsize SUV, the Wagoneer is a truck-based full-size SUV from Stellantis.
