Dallas City $250 Monthly Checks For A Year: Who’s Eligible?

Under the terms of the recent proposal, HUNDREDS of low-income families could receive $250 per month for an entire year.

The Dallas City Council agreed to transfer at least $20 million from one account to another to help pay for the program.

The funds, which are derived from unrestricted sales tax revenue, are earmarked specifically for racial justice initiatives.

This includes a one million dollar allocation for the pilot program that would provide monthly payments to 325 families.

According to the advocacy group Mayors For A Guaranteed Income, at least 30 other cities have similar programs in place.

Austin, San Antonio, and Houston mayors are all members of the group. Each of the three cities already has its own annual income program in place.

In Austin, 85 households receive $1,000 per month, while 110 in Houston receive $375 per month.

In 2020, San Antonio launched a pilot program that would give $1,000 low-income families $400 every three months for two years.

Before the program can move forward, several details, including eligibility requirements, must be discussed and finalized.

The Alexandria guaranteed income pilot in Virginia pays 150 participants $500 per month for two years, until 2023.
