Avatar 4 Production Has Begun, Says James Cameron

At the D23 Expo, James Cameron announced that production on the fourth instalment of the Avatar franchise has begun

While participating in the Expo virtually from New Zealand, Cameron provided an update on all of the upcoming Avatar sequels

Cameron addressed the Expo attendees not only about the status of Avatar 4, but also about the status of Avatar 3, stating that filming was still going on

He also hinted that, while Avatar 2 is still in post-production, things are "going well," and the Weta material looks "spectacular."

"I'm super excited to finally finish movie two; I know everyone has been waiting a long time," Cameron added

We'll hopefully be able to show you something today, and you'll be able to decide whether the wait was worthwhile

Following the sequel updates, he showed 3D scenes of the Na'vi's lush world from Avatar 2. While swimming, the Na'vi listened to Pandora and watched Sigourney Weaver's Dr. Grace Augustine

It featured battles in Pandora's woods, a fight between Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington, and more Na'vi unrest

The fact that Saldana and Worthington's characters are parents fits in perfectly with the film's overarching theme of "guarding the family."

The Expo's Worthington said, "Love and family are what life is about, and they're worth fighting for."
