$270 to $1050 Checks On Halloween In 5 States: Who’s Eligible?

MILLIONS of Americans are in for a treat this Halloween, as direct payments are being distributed this week.

The US Department of Labor announced in October that the inflation rate for the fiscal year ending September 2022 would be 8.2 percent.

Many states and communities across the country have offered rebates or guaranteed income programs to help with rising prices.

Virginia announced earlier this year that residents who had a tax liability last year would be eligible for a $500 rebate.

Those filing jointly will get $500, and individuals will get $250. Nov. 1 is the deadline to file taxes for a rebate.

All New York stimulus payments are expected to arrive this week as well. The checks are worth up to $270 and are expected to be distributed by the end of October.

New York

The New York Tax Department announced an additional $475 million in New York State child and earned income tax payments to approximately 1.8 million people.

Illinois residents will get their first direct payments Tuesday. These payments, worth $500, are part of Evanston's universal basic income experiment.

Residents must apply by Aug. 29. They were chosen by lottery and needed a household income below 250 percent of the federal poverty line.

On Monday, the city of Alexandria, Virginia, will launch a new $500 monthly direct payment program with no strings attached.

Basic income in Virginia

Residents must be 18 or older and have an income equal to or less than 50% of the area median income to be eligible.

California has launched a guaranteed income program to assist low-income families in combating the effects of inflation.

Over 300 families will receive $500 direct payments over the next two years, but the deadline is this Monday.
