$1.34billion Mega Million Lottery, Check Before It Expires

It has been several weeks since a ticket purchased in Illinois won the Mega Millions jackpot of 1.34 billion dollars.

However, no one has stepped forward to collect the second-largest jackpot in the game's 20-year history, trailing only the $1.537 billion ticket won in South Carolina in 2018.

Mega Millions website says that the rules for how to claim a prize and how long you have to claim it vary by state. Most prizes can be claimed between 90 days & a year after the date of drawing.

Illinois Lottery winners have a year to claim prizes. Winners of more than $250,000 may remain anonymous, so we may never know who the billionaire is.

Winners have 60 days from the draw date to choose between cash and annuity. As on July 29, they have 32 days to decide.

If a jackpot prize is not claimed, each participating state in the Mega Millions game will get a refund of all money contributed.

According to state lottery, about a quarter of every dollar spent on the lottery in Illinois goes toward public school funding. Lottery purchases raised $731 million for education last year.

Mega Millions is not liable for tickets that are lost or stolen. Winners should sign the back of their tickets. Anyone who has the ticket can register a claim unless it is signed.

Mega Millions tickets are available in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the US Virgin Islands, with drawings taking place at 11 p.m. ET on Tuesdays and Fridays.
