MTV Africa has officially confirmed that Uganda will be the host of the 2021 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA Awards) to be held on February 20, 2021.

The revelation was made on Wednesday at a scientific press conference held at the Mestil Hotel in Kampala.
That day, MTV Africa also took to its social media platforms and responded to the whole fuss about the ‘M’ who had recently spoken to Uganda.
“What is M stand for?” The question arises after the mysterious ‘M’ was placed in places like the Independence Monument, Kibuye, and Garden City among others.

Additional information on where the awards and arrangements will take place has not yet been announced, but at least we are sure the awards will take place in Uganda and Kampala will be hosting Africa’s biggest award ceremony next year at the 2021 MAMA Awards.
This is the first time Uganda has presented these awards, and it is an opportunity for the ‘Pearl of Africa’ to sell itself to the world. The awards lasted six editions, with South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya presenting the awards three times, twice and once.
The MAMA Awards were established by MTV Networks Africa in 2008 to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa.
One of the most exciting editions of the MAMA Awards (in Uganda view) took place in 2015 at a ceremony held at the Durban International Convention Center in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa on July 18 to mark Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
That year, many Ugandan artists were proud to share nominations with large icons, while others were invited to appear at the awards night.
In the MAMA Evolution Award category, Jose Chameleon competed against Samini, Asa, Black Coffee , 2Face Idibia, Anselmo Ralph, Fally Ipupa, HHP, and award-winning D’banj.
That same year, Bebe Cool was nominated for Best Video of the Year with the ‘Love You every day’ song, which raised arguments between the singer and videographer as to who should win the award.
The awards are finally within the pearl of Africa, however, the question that remains is whether the epidemic will end by February 2021.
So there should be more international celebrities in Kampala instead of the virtual show – especially since there are still no concerts and shows have been banned by the government as a measure against the rapid spread of COVID-19.
