Will Target open on Thanksgiving?

As COVID-19 retailers across the country re-imagine what their holiday shopping blitz will look like, the Superstore Target will close this year for Thanksgiving.

  • Thanksgiving usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season in the United States.

Target is now joining Dick’s Sporting Goods and Walmart, which last week announced that they would not open on Thanksgiving.

What is Thanksgiving and how is it celebrated?

Thanksgiving Day is a holiday celebrated by Americans on the fourth Thursday in November. It celebrates the story of Pilgrim eating with Native Americans and is set aside as a day to spend with loved ones and give thanks.

Most families observe a great meal and sometimes a religious service.

Prevent shopping label

Thanksgiving usually marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season in the United States. In recent years, the so-called Black Friday has practically become its own holiday.

But big box stores like Walmart  and Target have gradually introduced pre- and post-Black Friday, opening stores at 3 am on Friday after Thanksgiving or even Thanksgiving night .

However, Black Friday is often confusing because interested shoppers wait in long queues to open the doors, before capturing the best deals.

However, amid ongoing epidemics , these massive shoppers in November may not be credible.

There is the question of workers’ rights. Those employees were invited to the stores late at night or early the next morning, and the ceremony has long been criticized.

Labour lawyers have long wanted these workers to enjoy the holidays with their families and not have to go to work to manage the stamps of interested shopkeepers.

Target & Walmart’s new move should provide at least a small relief to these employees.

Long shopping season

The Target also unveiled on Monday plans to extend its Christmas shopping season by launching holiday ads in October. The company hopes to prevent large crowds of customers shortly before the holiday by giving shoppers a longer chance to take advantage of deals.

“Historically, deal hunting and holiday shopping have represented crowded events, not a year for crowds,” Target said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the struggling department store chain Macy’s is considering launching its Black Friday deals early in Halloween

This extension will give customers more time to order items online and wait for delivery.
