On Sunday, Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu was crowned Miss Universe 2021 after she beat out Miss Paraguay and Miss South Africa to become the next Miss Universe.

She bested 79 other contestants from 79 different countries, including runner-up Miss Paraguay Nadia Ferreira and second runner-up Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane, among others.

Andrea Meza , Miss Universe 2020, presented the crown to Harnaaz Sandhu, 21, before she made her first public appearance as New Miss Universe in Eilat, Israel.
In addition to being a strong advocate for women’s empowerment, Sandhu draws inspiration from Priyanka Chopra’s style. In her spare time, she enjoys yoga, dancing, cooking, horses, chess, and horseback riding.
Steve Harvey hosted the 70th annual Miss Universe competition, which included a swimsuit and evening gown segment, as well as interviews for each contestant prior to the winner being announced.
Israeli singer Noa Kirel also performed at the pageant, which centered on the climate crisis as part of a green agenda that adhered to the values of Israel.
This pageant was historically significant as it was the first time a representative from the United Arab Emirates had competed and the first time that Miss Universe Morocco had returned after over four decades.
The Miss Universe 2021 pageant took place seven months after Meza, 27, earned the crown during the 2020 pageant . The contest was abbreviated by five months as the annual pageant was put on hold in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Before the competition, Israeli Tourism Minister Yoel Razvozov said he was pleased to welcome the Miss Universe competition to his country, despite the ongoing COVID concerns.
Razvozov said that despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic posed to Israel, the country managed to maintain a healthy balance between health and the economy and resurrect tourism.
“Despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic presented to us, we managed to maintain a healthy balance between health and the economy in order to bring tourism back to Israel,” Razvozov explained.

In addition, Harvey, 64, returned to the Miss Universe competition for the first time since 2019 on Sunday.
