After being cancelled due to the pandemic in 2020, and rescheduled from its original May date in September, Vogue and Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual event will now take place in September.
PEOPLE Magazine spoke to The Met Gala and they stated: “Currently, all attendees must present proof of full vaccination at The Met Gala on 13 September. Masks must be worn indoors except when eating or drinking, and these guidelines may change as needed.”
The theme of this year’s Met Gala is “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”, which will be held in conjunction with a major exhibition celebrating the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary and exploring a modern vocabulary of American fashion.
In an interview with US Vogue , Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu curator at the Costume Institute, said: “I’ve been very impressed with American designers’ response to the social and political climate, especially around issues of body inclusivity and gender fluidity.
In May, US Vogue announced Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka would serve as hosts, with Tom Ford, Adam Mosseri and Anna Wintour serving as honorary chairs.
This year’s event will be a “more intimate affair,” but there will still be a red carpet where stars and designers can show off their “bold, outré ensembles.”.
In addition to the vaccine requirement for The Met Gala, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) recently announced the vaccine requirement for all guests, staff members, and individuals attending New York Fashion Week events.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday that the city will require vaccination proof to enter almost all indoor venues, such as restaurants, gyms, and entertainment venues.
