Melanie Martinez was born in Astoria, Queens on April 28, 1995. She is the daughter of Jose and Mary Martinez. The family lived in Queens until their daughter was four years old, and they relocated to Baldwin on Long Island. She attended Baldwin High School, from where she graduated.

She also added that Timothy never said no to what they both chose to do together. There is speculation that claims that Martinez and Heller were involved in a relationship earlier. Melanie related a song named Piggyback in response to the allegations by Timothy Heller.
