Lex Fridman: The Frontrunner To Be New Twitter CEO?

by Jacob Evans
27 December 2022
Lex Fridman, The Frontrunner To Be New Twitter CEO

Just being the eccentric billionaire he is, Elon Musk invited a lot of controversies when he took charge as the CEO of Twitter. Musk made many changes at the firm, starting from the number of employees to major policy changes for the platform.

Elon Musk took over Twitter and became the CEP in October 2022. According to his words, he got involved with Twitter to help the community and improve free speech. The deal is estimated to have cost Musk around $44 billion.

Since he took charge as the CEO of Twitter, Musk has been at the center of controversies and constantly criticized for his doings. He made many Tweets regarding different subjects for which he has received heavy criticism from different sides.

A recent Tweet from Elon Musk that is making headlines is his Tweet regarding his position at Twitter as CEO.

Lex Fridman

Earlier today Musk posted a tweet in which he mentioned that he was going forward with his decision for Twitter and once again made it clear that there will be significant policy changes happening. He also added an apology and reassured the users that it won’t be happening again.

The more striking and notable Tweet came after this, in which Musk asked if he should step down as the CEO of Twitter and he posted a poll so that the users could answer the question.

Musk also added that he will abide by the result of this poll, which means that if the majority chooses to vote yes, chances are that Musk may resign from his position as CEO of Twitter. While drafting this article, the result of the poll has a majority of Yes with 57 percent votes.

Musk continued his series of Tweets in which he shared the future of the social media platform. In one of the following tweets, Musk mentioned that the question at the moment was not to find anyone who can be the CEO of Twitter but to find someone who can actually keep the platform alive.

He was in search of a CEO who could ensure the survival of Twitter. This was when the event for the speculation of Lex Fridman becoming the next CEO took place.

To the tweet that Musk posted, Lex asked to let him run Twitter for a bit. The tweet was a bit elaborate and seemed genuine as he went on to explain and express his desire.

In his tweet, Lex added that he wanted no amount to be paid as his salary if he took the position of CEO and that he was all in for the deal. He also insisted on focusing on great engineering and increasing the amount of love in the world.

Fridman ended the tweet by making it clear that he was just offering his help in such a situation.

For those who had not been following Fridman, he has expressed his plan to do more for the world in the coming years and he has also mentioned making fewer podcasts from 2023 on so that he could fulfill his dream.

The situation got more interesting as Elon Musk posted a reply to Fridman about his tweet. Musk started by saying that Fridman must actually like pain a lot, making it clear that being the CEO of Twitter is no joke or easy.

Musk mentioned a catch if ever Fridman was to be the CEO of Twitter.

According to the reply posted by  Musk, the new CEO must be able and willing to sacrifice their life savings for Twitter as the platform had been long on the road to bankruptcy since May. Before ending his tweet, he asked Lex whether he still wanted the job.

The series of tweets went on a bit further and it got interesting as it progressed.

To Musk’s question about Lex still wanting the job of CEO of Twitter, he replied with a very firm yes. What made it even more interesting was Musk’s reply to the yes. Through his reply, Musk said Lex to be careful about what he wishes for, as he might get it. Now does that ring a bell?

Reading between the lines, it can be inferred that Musk is suggesting that if he stepped down as the CEO of Twitter as per his poll results, chances are very high that Twitter might go into bankruptcy and as he mentioned in one of his tweets, there is no successor for the job as of now.

If ever in the future, Musk steps down as the CEO, it can mean the end for Twitter. While the speculations about the appointment of Lex as the CEO of Twitter, there is no such official confirmation from any of the sides, be it Elon Musk or Lex Fridman.

The world is yet to see the result of the poll and how Musk will choose to react to it.
