Lollapalooza closes festival summer

It has long been a tradition that the Lollapalooza in Berlin marks the end of the festival season. So also this year. Bands such as Kraftklub, Seeed and Die Fantasticn Vier will warm up the Olympic terrain of the capital again at the beginning of autumn.

Whether Wacken, Hurricane or Rock am Ring – countless festivals take place in the countryside. And that usually in the middle of summer. But competition has been brewing in the metropolises for some time, albeit a little later in the year.

For example, the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg will come to an end this Saturday. It was first organized in 2006 and is now a fixture on the musical program calendar. It scored this year with official performances by Bonaparte, Tom Walker and Ukrainian rapper Alyona Alyona.

The Chemnitz rock stars of Kraftklub, on the other hand, gave a spontaneous surprise concert at Spielbudenplatz. The fact that they also got Tokyo Hotel singer Bill Kaulitz on stage for a song made the sensation perfect for many.

85,000 visitors per day

Over the weekend, the Reeperbahn Festival will seamlessly transfer the Lollapalooza in Berlin. Kraftklub will also be performing here on Saturday, but as part of the official line-up and second headliner behind AnnenMayKantereit. Because while the Reeperbahn Festival leaves a lot of room for newcomers and artists with room for improvement, the Lollapalooza focuses more on the mainstream.

Since 2015, the festival’s German offshoot, originally created by Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell, has been taking place in Berlin. The search for the right location for the really big music circus in the capital dominated the discussion in the early years. From Tempelhofer Feld we went to Treptower Park and then to the Hoppegarten Racecourse.

Finally, in 2018, the Lollapalooza took place for the first time at the Berlin Olympic site. The spacious grounds with stadium and park turned out to be the most suitable location for the spectacle. After the corona-related cancellations of the past two years, tens of thousands of spectators are now expected here again. Most recently, 85,000 people flocked to the festival every day.

The weather god means well

In addition to Kraftklub and AnnenMayKantereit, the performances by Machine Gun Kelly, Robin Schulz and Milky Chance are also among the highlights on Saturday. On Sunday, the headliner trio consists of Tiësto, Die Fantasien Vier and Seeed. Some of the artists who have already performed at the Reeperbahn Festival will also lead the afternoon program in Lollapalooza, including Alice Merton, Drangsal and Esther Graf.

There are still festival tickets of 169 euros available, as well as day tickets of 94 euros each. And the weather gods also seem to mean well with the Lollapalooza. With maximums around 18 degrees, it doesn’t get particularly warm in Berlin on the weekend. But the chance of rain is small. What more could you want at the end of the festival season shortly after the start of fall?
