Juliana Kanyomozi is a successful Ugandan female artist who has passed the test of time. For more than ten years now, Juliana has established herself as a strong force to compete within the music industry in Uganda.

Juliana Kanyomozi is adored in East Africa. She is one of the very few females that can compete favourably with Uganda’s leading male musicians.

Here are five things that everyone knows that you don’t know about her.

1. Kanyomozi is the first cousin of King Rukidi IV of Toro

Juliana Kanyomozi is the first cousin to King Rukidi IV of Toro. King Rukidi IV of Toro, born Aguma Muhumuza IV, known as King Oyo, is the reigning Omukama of Toro, Uganda.

He was born to Patrick David Mathew Kaboyo Olimi III and Queen Best Kemigisa Kaboyo on 16 April 1992.

Three and a half years later, in 1995, Oyo took the throne and succeeded his father in becoming the 12th ruler of the 180-year-old kingdom of Toro.

Kanyomozi’s dad was a drummer, and her grandma was a vocalist.

2. Kanyomozi is the first female musician to win PAM Awards

Juliana Kanyomozi was the first female musician to receive an accolade for ‘ Artist of the Year ‘ in Pearl of Africa Music Awards (PAM Awards). Becoming Uganda’s best musician of 2008.

At the sixth Pearl of Africa Music Awards at Shimoni grounds in Kampala on Saturday, the 37-year-old became the first female artist to win the coveted Artiste of the Year accolade.

The top honour had eluded women for the past five years, and males dominated the nominations too.

Kanyomozi beat fellow singers Bebe Cool, Geoffrey Lutaaya and Bobi Wine, who were expected to win the prize.

She dedicated the award to her father, who she said realized her potential when she was only 16 years old and encouraged her to sing.

3. The son of Juliana Kanyomozi, Keron Raphael Kabugo, died in 2014

Kanyomozi had a son who died in late July 2014, with husband Amon Lukwago, Keron Raphael Kabugo.

Her son was asthmatic but there was no evidence of the cause of death. Keron Raphael Kabugo, 11, died Sunday after suffering an asthma attack at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.

4. She first appeared onscreen in the movie Kiwani

Juliana Kanyomozi started her acting career in 2008 with Flavia Tumusiime, Hannington Bugingo and Allan Tumusiime in the Ugandan crime thriller film Kiwani.

Kiwani is a Ugandan drama film directed and produced by Ugandan journalist Henry Ssali, featuring Juliana Kanyomozi, Hannington Bugingo, Allan Tumusiime and Flavia Tumusiime.

The film tells the story of cheap tricks used by thieves and pickpockets on the streets of Uganda’s capital city, Kampala, the lives of university students and corporate personalities entangled.
