Let’s talk about what happened to him. We’ll discuss how tWitch died and what led to his passing at just 40 years old.
Who was tWitch?
tWitch, whose real name is Stephen Laurel Boss, was born on September 29, 1982, in Montgomery, Alabama. He became famous in 2008 when he came second in So You Think You Can Dance season 4. Later on, he joined the show again as a dance pro in 2011, 2012, and 2013, and as a team leader in 2015.
He also judged the show in 2018 and 2022. Besides, he was known as a DJ on The Ellen DeGeneres Show from 2014 until the show ended in 2022. Apart from dancing, he acted in movies like Blades of Glory, Hairspray, and TV shows like Modern Family.
Sadly, after being in Hollywood for more than ten years, tWitch passed away on December 13, 2022, at the age of 40. He left behind his wife, Allison Holker, and their three kids: Weslie, Maddox, and Zaia. Allison mentioned that all their kids love to dance in their own way. Even though they might not become professional dancers, they enjoy grooving to music.
So, what caused tWitch’s death? Let’s find out below.
What was the Cause of tWitch’s Death?
According to information from the police, tWitch’s wife Allison Holker went to a police station in Los Angeles on December 13, 2022. She was very worried because tWitch had left home without his car, which was unusual for him.
Later that morning, around 11:15 a.m., paramedics got a call for a medical emergency at a place called the Oak Tree Inn in Encino, California. This was less than a mile from where tWitch and Holker lived. Sadly, they found tWitch dead in the bathroom. He had shot himself in the head. The paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
The police said tWitch had checked into the motel on December 12, 2022, the day before he died. He had taken an Uber from home to the motel and turned off his phone so nobody could reach him. People who worked at the motel said tWitch didn’t look worried when he arrived, and he only had a small bag with him.
He booked the room for only one night. When he didn’t check out at the usual time the next day and didn’t answer calls, the motel staff became concerned. They knocked on his door many times, but there was no response.
Eventually, they opened the door and found him on the floor. They called the police immediately. The motel was structured in a way that the sound of a gunshot couldn’t be heard easily.
After tWitch’s death, the motel didn’t rent out rooms for a week. The manager confirmed that tWitch was alone and everything seemed normal on the day he was found.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said that officers went to the motel after receiving a call about an ambulance being needed. They found out that tWitch had taken his own life with a gun, and there was no evidence of anyone else being involved. The case was then given to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office for further investigation.
What were tWitch’s Last Words?
tWitch’s grandpa, Eddy Boss told The Daily Mail on December 15 about the final talk with his grandson before he passed away. “We talked on Saturday,” Eddy said. “He was still his happy self. We didn’t think anything was wrong.”
He added, “He was kind and gave a lot to others. He made people happy. We’re really sad now. He was a wonderful person who made a difference in the world and to everyone he met. We miss him a lot.”
Eddy, who went from Arizona to Los Angeles after tWitch’s death, also shared the last message tWitch sent him before he died. “Every word counts. His last message was a simple ‘I love you Dad-Dad.’ We wonder why he did it,” he said. Eddy also said he wasn’t sure if tWitch’s death was a suicide, even though the police said he died from shooting himself.
Final Farewell
tWitch’s funeral happened on January 4, 2023, in Los Angeles. Only close family went. Allison Holker, even though she felt sad, stayed brave for her kids, making sure they knew how much their dad loved them and what he left behind.

tWitch’s passing left a void in the hearts of many. He will be remembered for his talent, kindness, and the joy he brought to others through his work. His loved ones continue to cherish his memory and honor his legacy.
