Most major award ceremonies, including the Oscars, Baftas and Golden Globes, were replaced in 2021 as a result of the deadly disease in the entertainment industry.

The annual awards ceremony and one of the biggest music nights of the UK calendar – which usually takes place in London’s The 02 in February – is set for May 11 next year.

Organizers explained in a statement on the official BRITs website :

“We have made this decision after consulting with the music department and showcasing partners MasterCard, ITV and AEG. With a number of security and logistics considerations to host a major awards ceremony in February, we hope that this event will provide a great opportunity for all artists, as well as for the year.”

Speaking about the decision to move the date, BPI & Brit Awards Limited chief executive Jeff Taylor said: “We want to make sure BRITs provide the best production conditions, superstar performances and live entertainment, making it the biggest night in music.”

He added: “We believe the best way to achieve this is to move the show back a few months to May 2021, and we are already involved in planning an exciting event, which reminds us how important music is to all of us in these difficult times. I would like to thank AEG and MasterCard and our partners for their wonderful support. ”

This year’s BRIT Awards saw winners in Foals, Lewis Capaldi and  British Rapper Stormzy  – a special tribute to the late Caroline Flack and unique performances from the likes of Liso, Harry Styles, Billy Elish and Dave.
