The BRIT Award organisers confirmed that Polydor vice president Tom March would assume the position of chair for 2022.
In 2021, the event took place on May 11 and featured performances and big wins by performers including Sir Elton John, Taylor Swift, Coldplay, The Weeknd and Dua Lipa.
According to their press release, “The 2022 show will carry on that tradition; celebrating British and international artists and their achievements.” It will also be an even more innovative and interactive production than before.
Several other announcements are expected over the coming months. Earlier this year, Little Mix made history when they became the first female winners of the Best British Group award.
In their dedication, the ‘Black Magic’ hitmakers credited the award to all the female groups before them who they believe should have won it years ago.
They said: “The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes. So this award isn’t just for us, it’s for Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud, all of the incredible, incredible female bands, this one’s for you. So thank you BRITs, and we hope you have an amazing night.”
As live music slowly made a comeback this year, no cases of COVID-19 were reported from the event, which was held as part of the government’s Events Research Programme.
4000 fans attended this year’s ceremony, mostly NHS workers and key workers, who were not required to wear masks or socially distance themselves upon providing a negative Coronavirus test before the event.
In an article in the Evening Standard published on 25 May 2021, just 15 positive results were reported from the 58,000 people who participated in the research events organized by the government overall.
The BRITs also saw Dua Lipa win British Female Artist and Album of the Year for her 2020 hit ‘Future Nostalgia ,’ while Harry Styles received Best British Single for ‘Watermelon Sugar,’ and J Hus won British Male Solo Artist.
The Weeknd won Male Solo Artist, while Billie Eilish won Female Solo Artist, and HAIM were named International Group.
