The ‘Kilometre’ singer won his third Best International Act Award at the 2021 BET Awards in Los Angeles on 27 June, beating out Wizkid, Aya Nakamura, Tanzanian singer Diamond Platnumz and other nominees.
Following its virtual run in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns, the BET Awards returned to a live show format from the Microsoft Theatre as of this year’s edition. Hosted by Taraji P. Henson, the event was titled The Year of the Black Woman.
Burna Boy also expressed gratitude to his mother, Bose Ogulu, who has traditionally received the award on his behalf and whose BET Award speeches have appeared on both Burna Boy’s previous albums.
“I made it this time to collect my award myself,” Burna Boy joked, taking aim at not being onstage to get trophies from the BET Awards in the past.
His 2021 BET win totes on top of his growing list of musical accomplishments, which includes his historic Grammy win at the 63rd edition of music’s biggest ceremony earlier this year.
In the meantime, Burna Boy will take to the road once again this year with his Space Drift World Tour, which will encompass stops in the United States, the UK, France, Finland, Spain, and Portugal.
