The American representative Alexandria Ocasio – Cortez, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives is under investigation by the U.S. House Committee On Ethics.
The investigation was confirmed by the committee on Wednesday. Still, the whereabouts of the investigation have not been released yet. It was confirmed that the Office of Congressional Ethics had referred the matter to the Ethics committee earlier in June.
The OCE ( the Office of Congressional Ethics ) is an independent and nonpartisan entity that has the duty of reviewing the allegations that have been made against the members of the House of Representatives and the staff of the house.
As per the committee, the matter is being extended to 2023 and it was stated that the decision of investigation and the decision of the extension do not itself be the indication that any form of violation has occurred or the reflection of any judgment on behalf of the Committee.
Alexandria Ocasio – Cortez was in the headlines for attending the 2021 Met Gala in New York. This had caused widespread attention and caused the initiation of an investigation. The investigation was proposed by the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT).
Reportedly, AOC is a politician who is a fellow Democrat, who has always been the most ethical and has handled the matter with utmost caution. She has also turned down accepting any kind of donations from corporations or lobbyists or any other kind of special interest.
The office of Ocasio – Cortez is confident that the matter would be dismissed.
Democratic Rep. Susan Wild, representing Pennsylvania is the acting chairwoman of the U.S. House Committee On Ethics. Republican Rep. Michael Guest representing Mississippi is the acting ranking member of the committee.
Other members of the committee are the representatives: Dean Philips representing Minnesota, Veronica Escobar representing Texas, Mondaire Jones representing N.Y. are representatives from the Democratic party. Dave Joyce representing Ohio, John H. Rutherford representing Florida, Kelly Armstrong representing North Dakota are the representatives from the Republican party.
Earlier this week the committee found out that Republican representative Madison Cawthorn from North Carolina is guilty of being financially benefited from the purchase of a cryptocurrency that he had promoted.
The committee released a report that said while cryptocurrency promotion, particularly of a meme coin may be a novel issue before the committee, if a member may promote an asset in which that member has a financial interest is not a novel question.
The committee had also directed Cawthorn to pay 14,237.49 USD to the charity. Micah Bock, the spokesperson of Madison Cawthorn said that he had made plans of making donations to a spinal cord and paralysis treatment center and a gun- rights group.
Ocasio – Cortez in a description of the Met Gala said that it was elite and inaccessible. That event was held as an attempt to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The tickets were reported to have a value that was estimated to be approximately 35,000 USD per ticket.

As per the data received Alexandria Ocasio – Cortez was gifted with her ticket to the event of 2021 Met Gala and her seat was at the table of the Vogue editor. The editor of Vogue Anna Wintour is also the artistic director of Condé Nest. Wintour also has the reputation of being a co-host of the Met Gala for a long period.
The U.S. House of Representatives, rep AOC had responded to the controversial criticisms post the Met Gala event itself. Her initial response was that she was only one among the many people who had attended the Met Gala that evening.
In a further statement, she said that there is a routine practice of the New York officials who are elected being invited to the event of Met Gala, and many others have attended it in the past.
And she said that the reason for the elected New York officials getting invited is because of their responsibilities in overseeing and supporting the cultural institutions in the city which are functioning for the public.
